I started a brand new thread on Wednesday’s game as this one has meandered a bit.

Word is that Bellarmine turned down CBI. Rumor is that Grand Canyon (23-8, #92) also turned down CBI and Classic. I understand that Utah Valley (18-12, #114), Stony Brook (18-13, #233), and our friends in Rochester (20-12, #171) have indicated they don't want to play anywhere. There are teams that have announced the head coach is fired, including South Dakota (19-12 #199), and East Carolina (16-16 #185).
But at least in theory, there are still a lot of teams out there.
Some teams not publicly committed to a tournament: Fresno State: 19-13, #73 Furman: 21-12, #80 Bradley; 17-14, #95 Louisiana Tech: 21-10, #97. Central Florida: 18-12, #101 Morehead State: 20-11, #112 George Mason: 14-16, #115 Hofstra: 20-11, #116 Buffalo: 19-11, #118 Western Kentucky: 19-13, #126 Seattle: 21-9, #130 Kent State: 23-10, #132 UC-Irvine: 15-10, #133 Wagner: 21-6, #135 Southern Illinois 16-15, #136 UC-Santa Barbara: 17-11, #139 Monmouth: 21-13, #144 Charleston: 17-15, #147 Winthrop: 20-9, #151 Sam Houston St: 19-14, #152 Oral Roberts: 19-12, #155 North Dakota State: 23-10, #157 UC-Riverside: 16-12, #163 UNC-Greensboro: 18-14, #166 Weber State: 21-12, #167 Hawaii: 17-11, #169 Jacksonville: 21-10, #170 Samford: 21-11, #172 Navy 21-11, #173 Gardner-Webb: 18-13, #174 Fordham: 16-16, #177 Louisiana: 16-15: #187 Charlotte: 17-14, #188 Northern Kentucky: 20-12, #195 Niagara: 14-16, #202 UMKC: 19-12, #206 Southern: 17-14, #215 Eastern Washington: 18-15, #221 Western Illinois: 16-15, #225 New Hampshire: 15-13, #237 Siena: 15-14, #238 Howard: 15-13, #240 Long Island: 16-14, #244

We'll be in a very strange environment on the road -- against a team playing for their fired coaching staff. Will they go 100% or will they give up? Either way, hopefully all those tough road games have toughened us up for the moment -- with or without Willie and/or Noah (both currently injured). There's a cool matchup at PG - they have a high-scoring Grad Student PG (21.1 ppg) who's even smaller than AD. He played 3 years at Duquesne. And an ironic twist that will probably have nothing to do with the game itself is that tomorrow they have a Presser announcing their new coach (already!) - Pat Chambers formerly of Penn State. www.fox4now.com/news/local-news/fgcu-athletics-to-introduce-pat-chambers-as-new-mens-basketball-head-coach He must be the guy that Sonny Johnson committed to, then the new coach backed away from Chamber's offer. Little sidebar stories...

Is this the entire field? 32 teams now only 21? Or are other first round games still being worked out? What team forfeited? Did you notice we’re “Detroit”? Hope that’s what they engrave on the trophy if we win the whole thing. FIRST ROUND TUESDAY, MARCH 15 USC Upstate (14-16) @ Appalachian State (19-14) 6:30 pm Western Illinois (16-15) @ UTEP (19-13) 7:00 pm WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16 Detroit (14-15) @ FGCU (21-11) 7:00 pm UMES (11-15) @ Coastal Carolina (16-13) 7:00 pm Merrimack (14-16) @ UMBC (18-14) 7:30 Morgan State (13-14) @ Youngstown State (18-14) 8:00 pm Southeastern Louisiana (19-14) @ South Alabama (19-11) 8:00 pm Kent State (23-10) @ Southern Utah (20-11) 9:00 pm *Opponent Forfeited due to Covid 19 @ Wofford (19-13) THURSDAY, MARCH 17 Eastern Washington (18-15) @ Fresno State (19-13) 10:00 pm SATURDAY, MARCH 19 New Orleans (18-13) @ Portland (18-14) 10:00 pm

There will be 11 teams moving into the second round. Any idea on how that is going to work? Go Titans….loving my ESPN+ subscription. I have seen more games this season that at ant time since 1969.

I’m guessing they are sort of making this up as they go along. Obviously with the number of teams involved in the “bracket,” at various points along the way some teams will get byes.

If we win the first game I hope New Orleans wins and we play there, My guess would be Youngstown or Kent State. With the mix and match quality of the tournament schedule, I think they will try as much as possible to avoid intra-conference pairings until and unless absolutely necessary in the later rounds. At least based on first round games, geographic proximity doesn’t appear to be the primary consideration.

Agreed, PTC. Rather than worry about the reality that they couldn't find 32 schools interested, we need to use this opportunity for our purposes. If we win a game, it's a good win for the team's confidence going forward. If we win more than one game, it's a good win for the Program. If we were somehow able to win it all, it'd be a good win for the entire Athletic Dept and the University as a whole. Win and advance. Don't worry where they send us next if that becomes a reality.
