Baylor keeps the momentum going after their national title, landing their second high level recruit for the class of 2022. Keyontae George, ranked #5 in the nation by Rivals, verbally committed over the weekend. Should be an immediate impact type player. The Bears keep a five star player from leaving the state. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/keyonte-george-234594

Texas Tech is another program that replaced their head coach and, as a result, have a lot of people watching their recruiting. New coach Mark Adams landed a bunch of transfers in the Spring and Summer, but many of them were from the mid major ranks. Good sign for him last night, however, as ESPN Top 100 2022 recruit Rickie Isaacs verbally committed to the Red Raiders. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/238296/rickie-isaacs

Kansas State landed their first commit of the 2022 class when 3 star power forward Taj Manning picked KSU. He's a Lumiere student/athlete, so I am expecting him to be pretty good. This is going to be an interesting year for the Wildcats. Bruce Weber is in his tenth year there, with 5 NCAA tourney appearances, including an Elite Eight trip in 2018. KSU was one and done in the Big Dance in 2019, but the last two seasons have seen a combined 20-41 record, including 7-29 in conference play. Some alumni and fans are making noise about a new direction. I'm not sure about that. Weber has done very well there overall (57% winning overall, even with the last two bad years) and it's Manhattan, Kansas, for goodness sake. Mitch Richmond isn't walking through that door. I'd give Weber a year or two to get back on track, by which time he'll probably be ready to retire anyway. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/taj-manning-239286

Kansas sophomore Jalen Wilson was arrested recently for DUI. Coach Bill Self announced today that Wilson will be suspended for the team's exhibition game and the first three regular season games of the year. He'll miss the nationally televised Champions Classic match up against Michigan State. He will also have to perform community service.
Worth noting that he faces a harsher punishment than Gonzaga coach Mark Few, who was only suspended for two exhibition games and a regular season opener with Dixie State for his DUI.

Oklahoma State gets slammed--three years probation, one year ban from post-season, loses three scholarships, various recruiting restrictions. What did the Cowboys do to the NCAA? This comes out of the 2017 investigation.

Blue Ribbon predicts the Big 12.
1. Kansas 2. Texas 3. Baylor 4. West Virginia 5. Texas Tech 6. Oklahoma State 7. Oklahoma 8. TCU 9. Kansas State 10. Iowa State
New coaches in command at several of the programs means a lot of questions.

So far this year I'd say the Big 12 looks like the best conference in the country. The league has five teams ranked in the AP Top 25, including Iowa State at #20. The Cyclones were picked to finish last in the conference by Blue Ribbon and other outlets. TCU has been the other pleasant surprise, while WVU has been a bit of a disappointment. The league is cannibalizing itself during league play, but has a lot of impressive wins in the non-conference to boost their standing. I think either Baylor or Kansas take the regular season crown, but don't count out Texas Tech.

Iowa State New coaches in command at several of the programs means a lot of questions. Lots of news came out of the Big 12 the past year, with the big news coming off the court and Oklahoma and Texas announced they were leaving for the SEC and the Big 12 followed by announcing the additions of Houston, UCF, Brigham Young, and Cincinnati. Today, the league announced revenue of $426 million would be split among the ten schools. Ch-ching!! On the court, Kansas won another national title and the league finished this way: Kansas 14-4, 34-6 Baylor 14-4, 27-2 Texas Tech Texas TCU Oklahoma State Iowa State Oklahoma Kanas State West Virginia Six teams made the Big Dance. Kansas State's Bruce Weber stepped down after a fine career. He was 497-302 overall and 184-147 with the Wildcats. In ten years with KSU he made five NCAA tournaments, including an Elite Eight run in 2018.
