JJ seems absolutely convinced that JJJ is NBA material. Whether it was JJ or BA or both, they tried to push him right into the key role last year, when he was clearly no better than the 4th, 5th, or even 6th best player on the team (behind Corey Allen, Josh McF, Prince, Chatman, and--at least you would have expected before opening day--Hogan). I'm not generally averse to thrusting guys right into action--I had no problem with the all-freshman backcourt of McCallum and Calliste a few years back. But JJJ certainly didn't enter college as developed as McCallum, and probably not as much as Calliste, who also had a redshirt year. And I understood the all-freshman backcourt of Grant and Williams once Ray McCallum left for the NBA and Calliste for Oregon before their senior seasons--we had no other options. But JJJ should've started with 15-20 minutes a game as a back up guard, having to earn added playing time. When Davis was hired, someone reliable--I believe Hyperion--said that JJJ was probably staying. I think he would have benefited a lot from a year playing under Davis. But I suspect he saw the writing--once Antoine Davis committed (a guy who is further along that JJJ a year ago, and should get major minutes, presumably starting as a freshman) JJJ probably saw himself being the back up this year to Josh and Davis, and that he couldn't stand. So he decided to move on. I don't know what's up with Ballantyne. But one thing I think is that Ballantyne has to decide what position he plays. If he's a big guard--and a 6-9 guy who shoots threes can be a deadly weapon--he needs to improve his ball handling and his shot. If he's going to be a forward, power or small, he needs to start using his size in the paint at both ends of the court. Anyway, as Scout says, they're gone, so that's that. But it does seem kind of sad. A lot of talent wasted that might have been productive in Calihan: Chatman/Khalil Chatman/Allen/Jackson/Ballantyne/Adrian Nelson--they're all good players. But that's assuming there's enough balls to go around for Kameron Chatman, Jackson, and Allen, and that they had decent coaching. Beyond cheerleading, Bacari seemed clueless about how to get the most out of his players. +2

I actually think there will be a good amount of mid major interest in JJJ. Granted he struggled this season, but if I was a coach who believed in my ability to get the most out of players, I would be interested. Jackson averaged 10 ppg on the season, shot 85% from the line. Scored over twenty points three times in conference, with a high of 32. There were certainly signs of untapped potential.
Not so sure about Jack. He seemed physically outmatched during the season, and shot less than 30% overall and from three. His stock is probably lower than this time last year. Seems like he started the season out of shape and never got any better, which might raise questions about work ethic. Still, he's a 6-9 player. There is probably someone out there who will figure he's worth the risk, especially if he has a year to redshirt and get his conditioning and game together.
We'll see.

Geneva is located in Northeast Ohio, halfway between Cleveland and Erie, PA. Maybe Cleveland State or Gannon?

BA still tweeting inspirational quotes. Perhaps a return to reality would benefit his future.

Geneva is located in Northeast Ohio, It wihalfway between Cleveland and Erie, PA. Maybe Cleveland State or Gannon? It will be very interesting to see where JJ ends up, but I'd be very surprised if it's D-II Gannon. Let's assume he wants to stay close. That would give him a lot of choices: Cleveland State, Akron, Youngstown State, and Kent State are all with 80 minutes. Robert Morris and Duquesne are 2 hours (as is Pitt, though that seems less likely to be interested). Toledo, Buffalo, and Niagara are about two and a half hours, St. Bonaventure a bit less. So counting Pitt, that's 11 D-I schools, 10 of them mid-majors, within 2.5 hours drive time. If they're willing to go farther afield, JJJ can, I'm sure, get other D-I offers.

I expect JJ Jr. is probably sorting through the list of schools that are interested in him and arranging visits. Unless his Dad wants to come on board at his new school as part of a package deal, he really doesn't have red flags that would scare mid major programs away.

Triple J has put out this highlight tape of his freshman year.
Anybody notice what I noticed?

Triple J has put out this highlight tape of his freshman year. Anybody notice what I noticed? Two things jump out. The video identifies him as a U of D point guard. (Well, that extra word was in there.) Also, I am two minutes plus into the video and I don't think I saw an assist. Edit: I did see one assist. Also, the final play was entitled "Game Winner", but I think it was the late three that tied the Houston Baptist game, not a shot that actually won the game. Of course, you can argue that if JJ Jr. doesn't make that shot, we don't go into overtime and get a chance to win. But I'm just nitpicking now.

Triple J has put out this highlight tape of his freshman year. Anybody notice what I noticed? I saw one assist from a point guard and it didn't matter how open his teammates were. A couple of times Josh and Corey were wide open and he forced the shot and in a couple of plays he went 1V2. It never showed him playing D especially in the Green Bay game where he was really abused.

One assist (or even pass) in the entire video, coming in the final half-minute. As this highlight reel shows, JJJ has some real talent. There are quite a few ankle-breakers in there, with defenders literally falling down in a couple cases. But I really think JJJ (and JJ) have not worked on a team focus. This is curious, because JJ, as a player, was a true team player--it was defense, rebounding, and generally running the offense that made him Horizon Player of the Year, not his 11 points per game and .428 FG percentage. I would actually like to see JJJ stick around and develop as an all-around player--at least if he wants to, and Coach thinks he can develop in that way.

I noticed that whenever the score flashed on the screen the titans were losing 98% of the time.
