It is a coaches job to make sure that their team is in condition to compete and in condition to avoid injuries. With the number of injuries on this team isn't it obvious that they needed more conditioning. Where do you go as a Coach if there is resistance to conditioning and a group of students thinking they know more about how a practice should be run than the coach and most of their D1 experience acquired from Uncle Nice Guy. Everyone keeps addressing this with the term student athletes. There were very few athletes on this team. Go watch the films. Last year Zoey Oatis was an Athlete and ignited the team when she was on the floor but regardless how she was doing she seemed to get about the same playing time as others doing nothing. I am not sure Coach Scott knew what an Athlete looked like. It looked to me like he was coaching a rec. team somewhere. I am sure that the non commitment to winning carried over onto the 2020 - 2021 team. As I stated earlier problem was spread over many fronts and a lot of people were put into positions where success was impossible. Couldn't we get Jiera Shears on an Academic Scholarship with her 4.0 and she could devote all her time to her studies and being the student part of student athlete. That should help her and the basketball team. What some of us are not realizing is that if Gilbert was replaced, the next coach would not want to be handcuffed with this team. Geno or Pat Summit in her prime, could not turn this group into winners on the court. In fact with this group I have a feeling that after a season there would be a second investigation or some of the parents would be picketing Calihan. The problem here is shared by many but it starts with the hiring of Coach Scott.

Davis today was asked about the Women's program. We have been looking for someone to refute some of the allegations against the University and Gilbert and today Davis did at the Zoom meeting. He said he was the one that put up the signs and set the rules about the shooting guns being used on the side baskets only. Apparently like a lot of other issues in the Maxine Moore story the posted signs were never mentioned. She must have felt that they were for everyone but her. According to Davis the men are also required to use the guns on the side court. He said he called and spoke to the reporter at the Fake News but the story was not rescinded. He also said that he loves Calihan Hall and spends most of his time on or near the court and felt he had watched about 80% of the women's practices. Said practices were run properly and he did not see any abuse and that Gilbert did a really good job with the talent she had to work with. According to Davis the Title IX allegations made by Moore were false. So for those out there that felt it was wrong to tell her that her presence on the team was not wanted, maybe it was an excellent decision. Tarheel talks about Jesuit values and taking the side of the powerful and such but is there anywhere in the Jesuit Values where inflicting harm to those falsely accused or piling on is addressed? I kind of get the mental picture of a lot of old fashioned rock throwing going on here. I learned a long time ago that the ugliest thing about sports is the parents not only for the coach and team concept but for their own children! Then along comes Covid and we really have an enhancement to our problems.

rogobob77 - what was the PR strategy behind giving this interview to Tony Paul instead of giving it to the Free Press reporter? Or did they give it to Paul first? Do you know?

I think I read somewhere that the AD and Coach met with two reporters (perhaps at the same time), I assume this was with a representative from both local papers. I believe the Tony Paul story went up in the afternoon, the Free Press story in the evening. I don’t think this reflects a PR strategy, more likely Paul’s tendencies to move rather quickly in preparing and releasing his online stories.

I wish they would not have waited so long to do this.
