Thompson is a good get. He was definitely the space eater. Congrats to the staff. Unfortunately, I highly doubt there will be a college basketball season this academic year.

Understood that Datcher may have been an option, but they waited 6-8 weeks for Thompson to make it official. There might be another commitment announced sometime in the next 4-5 weeks.

Most enigmatic post of the year. I only had a quick second to send a message, and I was sure Scout was going to post the details in seconds. π Scout had to get up at 3am this morning - I gotta sleep (even if for only 4 hours or so) sometime BTW - I think he's worth taking a chance on. Big men are hard to come by and he does have skill - probably more skill than almost all the other guys on the grad transfer list that was posted. I'll trust Davis as to whether he has any "issues" we need to be concerned with. PTC says he's fine academically, so that's a plus. So hopefully he's motivated, and with playing time his skill will show on the court. Plus Waterman gets a mentor for a season.

We'll have to see, but I would not assume that he rides the pine for year, and given that Waterman isn't really a banger, I can see Waterman and Thompson on the court at the same time. We've got some parts. It's up to Coach to put 'em together. I hope Thompson comes in full of fire, ready to prove all the naysayers wrong, and get back on the NBA prospect list.

Question: Why did Thompson play just one 1 game all year (and that in November)? I can't really believe he wasn't good enough. He had to be in the coach's doghouse big time, or injured. I wonder if there's any chance of him getting a redshirt year. But note that would also require a waiver of the 5 years to play 4 rule. Still, maybe... ?

Really hard to say why he didn't play. There are some articles indicating that he was held out for an illness during last season. But he was suspended one game in 2018-19 for violating team rules. It appears that the fit for him at Seton Hall with Willard was not good. Most people think he should have stayed at 'Cuse.
So, I'll throw some more intrigue into the discussions about this year's recruiting class. There may be one more big coming. I have no idea what all of this means for who is returning, not returning, or who is on scholarship or is a walk-on. Bottom line is that we will be a much different team from here forward. Much tougher mentally and physically. APR last year delayed by one year what the coaches wanted to accomplish. We'll probably see how this all resolves itself over the next 4-6 weeks.

Thompson's situation reminds me of a guy I have brought up before, center Trayvon Reed. Reed was a big time recruit who played at two different high majors before landing at Texas Southern with Coach Davis. He was had disciplainary issues at his previous stops, but thrived at TSU, becoming an integral part of a really good team. Hopefully Thompson turns out the same way.

Just thinking that Thompson has played (or at least experienced) college basketball at the highest levels - including all the practices. Waterman, with a partial year of D1 experience in the MAAC, came from a tiny high school and is still very green & physically underdeveloped. It will be good for him to share time with another real big man and learn from him (for one season until Thompson leaves? and then he could handle much more of the load). Before today, the load was on him only and learning from a "big man in disguise" like Willy or Brandon probably wasn't ideal

I am not positive that Waterman will be ready this season to start at the 4 position, or if he does to make a MAJOR impact, however, to be able to have a front line of Thompson, Waterman, Brandon and Isiani provides some nice flexibility across the board with guys with various skillsets.
