While I don't discount what you are saying, in this case, I don't think that the source I have could be any better. I can only say opinions may differ on "actively recruiting" is and based on the source, I have zero doubt. Another item. As mentioned by UP Basketball, if the coach was helping at camps that would certainly explain at a minimum , Cassius in U of D gear, I would suspect Cassius wore MSU gear also. We came close to getting Cassius! I don't call 80 miles, close, but I jest. I don't disagree that he was recruited, its the semantics of it and semantics are important because they ultimately lead to the truth This discussion wouldn't have gone anywhere except you went after a young man you know nothing about and then made it about his Dad with some pretty rude crotchy comments. I have never come on this board, the old board, or in my 30 years of commenting on or writing stories for the Detroit Titans using a source that wasn't accurate. Maybe I will crawl back in my hole, maybe I won't. Seems like to much angst around and I am struggling not to be a part of it.

I did post that I hope we do not hire anyone close to Pat Donnelly and I am not being nasty or crotchety or rude. I hope we help him out as much as he has helped us out though the years and to me it doesn’t look like he has gone out of his way to be helpful to the University.

We have what we wanted, regime change. Let's support coach Montgomery.
Does anyone know when the Day of Giving is? Feeling like I might want to contribute my little bit to the BB program.

Here's what I do when I make a donation to Athletics: I write the check to the "University of Detroit", write in the check stub area what it is for, write a cover letter to Robert explaining what it is for, and address the envelope to him. Then follow up with an email to Robert detailing the donation.

I'll go to the UDM home page and check out my options there.

Having a different opinion than you is not rude or crotchety. Saying that I hope Colin does not get an assistants job because his Dad is Pat is not rude or crotchety it’s honest! Donnelly was brought up on here when Ray wasn’t resigned the when BA was asked to leave and now as a replacement for Davis! I am not convinced Donnelly is even one of the better HS coaches in the area! He has had good players and teams but in the Catholic League you can cherry pick and recruit players. At a public school you pretty much Coach what you get and if you do not build a good feeder program in your area you are at the mercy of a roll of the dice in fact even then a private school can recruit your feeder program.

You don’t have to care for Coach Pat, that’s an opinion free to have. Your logic would suggest it’s not really based in solid fact and that’s where I’ll speak up.
UDJ does NOT recruit. St Mary’s on the other hand…
If they did recruit wouldn’t they have had more success across their sports over the years? When instead basketball is the sole program that is a consistent winner.
Further, look at the long list of state titles schools like CC, de la salle, rice have won over past decade or so compared with UDJ. Factually UDJ isn’t at their levels so their supposed recruiting operation isn’t too slick.
UDJ continually loses talented players to schools that DO recruit - there’s a laundry list of D1 (and even a few NFL guys) that went to UD for 7th and 8th and then was poached away. This has gone on for 20+ years.
Have you seen UDJ hoops play much under Pat? Udballer, scout and myself have seen them live many times over the years. They ARE well coached and their success and various catholic league and regional titles are due to both talent AND the coaching. It’s impossible not to see how well coached they are on both ends of the court.
So…opinions are all good, but not tending to facts or just misstating things to support a point is not all good.

You are right I do not know for fact that whether UDJ gives $ breaks to student athletes it is an assumption. I am basing that on logic! Why would good players like Winston or Friday go to UDJ and pay if they can go to Rice, CC or Country Day for free? I have watched Donnelly’s teams in person around 15-16 times! But hey if UDJ can get parents like the Winston’s to send three sons to UDJ and pay around $135000 more than if they were to go to Rice or CC and pay full shot on a vehicle to get them there then the I take my hat off to UDJ, congratulations!

If Colin Donnelly would be a good hire, he should be hired on his own merits. mike - I do recall that we had UDJ's Herman Jenkins on our 1993-94 team. Can't remember if we actually recruited him or if he just showed up. But he may have committed here before UDJ called itself UDJ. In those days, we still played as Detroit and U of D. That was just a few years after the extinction meteor struck 6 and Livernois. Pre-history.

The Verbal Commits web site indicates that UDM offered Miles Mitchell a scholarship this past week. This appears to be the first offer made by the new coaching staff. verbalcommits.com/players/miles-mitchell
